Picture 1:
Floatplane taking off from Lake Spenard.

It was sunny and about 65 degrees when I arrived in Anchorage
Wednesday afternoon, so I decided to skip the shuttle and make the
1 mile walk along the shore of Lake Spenard to my hotel.

Here's a video (in full 1080p High Definition) of a floatplane crash that happened along the same road
the following week. Fortunately, all aboard (pilot, three passengers and two dogs) survived without injury.
(Note the cameraman diving to the ground as the plane passes overhead and clips the fence.)

Picture 2:
Lake Hood Seaplane Base.

Almost 200 flights per day operate from Lake Hood making it
the busiest seaplane base in the World.

By "evening" I mean about 11 PM.
The Knik Arm is a relatively shallow tidal basin
on the Western side of downtown Anchorage
